Documents, 1438-1891 [manuscript]. 1438-1891.

These legal documents were brought to Australia by Mr Robert J. Gladwin's grandfather William Rowland Gladwin in 1855. They relate to family property in Essex at Northweald and Nettswell. The bulk of the title deeds are on parchment and are the holder's copies from the Court Rolls of admission and surrenders of tenants to "Spurriers", the Gladwin holding on the Manor of Nettswell. The collection also contains a note dated December 1764 regarding peace negotiations between Major Henry Gladwin and Indian Chief Pontiac. There are also marriage settlements, bonds, correspondence about land exchanges and copies of entries from parish registers in Essex relating to the Gladwin Family. There is also a family tree compiled by Mrs R. J. Gladwin. One document, the burial certificate of Hannah Gladwin, 1891, belongs to the period after the family arrived in Australia.
